Assigned Subject Competitions
The list below contains the Assigned Subjects for the 2026 – 2027 Competitions. Adjacent to each subject is a description detailing the type of images that may be entered. Please check the Program and Competition Schedule for the competition date of each Assigned Subject.
The descriptions will be read to the judge at each competition. It will be at the judge’s discretion to disqualify an image if they feel it does not meet the description.

Leading Lines |
9-28-26 |
Leading Lines are used to bring the viewer from a starting point to another location in an image. The line can take any form but must meet the criteria for a leading line.

Abandoned & Decayed |
10-19-26 |
The subject must depict something that abandoned or decayed. Anything from an abandoned building to dead roses fit the criteria. Since it is around Halloween zombies are acceptable.

Street Photography |
11-16-26 |
The image must capture candid, everyday moments in public places. These image usually, but not always, include people. Documenting humanity, architecture, parks, subways, streets and beaches are acceptable. Storytelling gives these images more impact.

CMCC Memorial Competition |
12-14-26 |
One printed image of your choice. The image cannot be one that has won a previous award. The printed image may be displayed with a mat or mounted on foam board. No frames.

Abstract |
1-25-27 |
The abstract must reflect the exploration of color, shape, line, light, or a combination of those basic elements. Recognizable animals, birds, and people are not permitted.

Land, City, Sea Scapes |
2-22-27 |
The main subject of the image must depict a landscape, cityscape or seascape. Other elements are permitted in the image but they should not be the main subject.

Water in Any Form |
3-22-27 |
The main subject of the image must be water. The water can be in any form river, ocean, waterfall, frozen, snow, rain, etc.

|
Black & White |
4-5-27 |
The image must be depicted in Black & White. Birds and flowers are permitted. Sepia and monochrome are permitted. Spot color and other variations are not permitted.

Shapes |
5-17-27 |
Shapes are building blocks for our images and tend to repeat throughout an image. Shapes include triangles, circles, ovals, rectangles and squares. Select one shape that repeats in your image. Indicate the shape in the image title.
